The Implementer Team Role: Turning Ideas into Practical Action
An idea only creates value when somebody makes it happen. Implementers are practical, reliable and efficient. They turn plans into action and organise the work required to deliver results.
Originally known as the ‘Company Worker’, this Team Role captures the contribution of people who create structure, make processes workable and keep essential work moving.

What an Implementer brings
- Practical plans that translate intentions into tasks.
- Reliable delivery and disciplined follow-through.
- Organisation, structure and efficient use of resources.
- A steady focus on what needs to be done.
Allowable weaknesses
Implementers can be somewhat inflexible and slow to respond to new possibilities. Having invested effort in a workable plan, they may be reluctant to change direction. That caution is allowable when it protects dependable delivery.
Persistently obstructing a necessary or clearly beneficial change goes beyond healthy caution. Reliable implementation includes adapting when circumstances genuinely require it.
Getting the best from Implementer behaviour
- Give a clear outcome and enough authority to organise delivery.
- Involve Implementers early enough to identify practical constraints.
- Explain why a proposed change is necessary and what success will look like.
- Avoid unnecessary changes of direction that waste time and effort.
- Recognise dependable delivery, not just the more visible ideas that started the project.
The Implementer in a team
Plants may generate original solutions and Resource Investigators may find promising opportunities. Implementers turn the selected ideas into workable plans, and Completer Finishers then provide the detailed checking needed before the work is signed off.
A Plant and an Implementer may become frustrated if one keeps exploring while the other wants to start delivering. Agreeing when the team will stop generating options and commit to a plan makes both contributions more effective.
